About The Mirror Dispatch

The Mirror Dispatch launched in 2019 with a simple premise: that England needed more analytical journalism, not less. Not more breaking news alerts, but more considered reporting that placed events in context and treated readers as adults capable of forming their own views.

We are an independent publication. We have no parent company, no proprietor with political ambitions, and no advertising clients with editorial influence. Our revenue comes from display advertising, and we maintain a strict separation between commercial and editorial operations.

Our Approach

We publish fewer stories than most news sites. That is deliberate. We would rather spend three days on one piece than produce ten articles in an afternoon. Our reporters are given time to develop sources, read documents and understand the subjects they cover. The result, we hope, is journalism that holds up over time.

We cover politics, economics, health, education, the environment and community life. We are based in England and our primary focus is England, though we cover UK-wide and international stories when they matter to our readers.

The Team

Victoria Crane — Political Editor. Victoria has covered Westminster and local government for twelve years. She previously worked for a national broadsheet before joining The Mirror Dispatch at its founding.

James Alderton — Economics Correspondent. James covers economic policy, labour markets and the cost of living. He holds a postgraduate qualification in economics from the London School of Economics.

Naomi Blackwell — Society and Communities Reporter. Naomi's work focuses on the social fabric of England — voluntary organisations, community institutions and the people who keep them running.

Owen Hargreaves — Transport and Infrastructure Correspondent. Owen has written about transport policy for eight years, with a particular focus on rail and the politics of infrastructure investment.

Editorial Standards

We follow the standards set out in our Editorial Policy. We correct errors promptly and transparently. We protect confidential sources. We give subjects of criticism a fair opportunity to respond.
